Overview

Your journey begins the moment you are picked up at the port and welcomed by your knowledgeable local guide. As you leave the city behind and head into the countryside, your guide will bring Belize to life with fascinating stories about its people, traditions, and rich history. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush tropical scenery and get a glimpse of the diverse ecosystems that make Belize such a beautiful natural paradise.

Soon you’ll arrive at the Baboon Sanctuary, a protected area dedicated to preserving Belize’s famous black howler monkeys. Here, your guide will share the inspiring story of how local communities came together to protect these incredible animals and create a safe haven for them in the wild.

As you explore the sanctuary, your guide will call the monkeys, and you may be amazed as they come surprisingly close. Hearing their powerful howls echo through the jungle and watching them move gracefully through the treetops is a truly thrilling experience. With plenty of time for photos, you’ll be able to capture unforgettable moments as these fascinating creatures swing and climb through their natural habitat.

After your encounter with the monkeys, the adventure continues as you travel to the village of Hattieville, where the next exciting part of your journey begins. Here, you’ll climb into a rugged Jeep Wrangler and set off on an off-road expedition toward the village of Gracy Rock.

Driving through jungle trails in the Maya Mountains, you’ll experience Belize’s wild side up close. During the rainy season, the trails can turn muddy, adding an extra dose of fun and excitement for those ready to embrace a true off-road adventure.

Along the trail, you’ll stop at a hidden dry cave system tucked within the mountains. Equipped with helmets and lights, you’ll venture inside to discover stunning stalactites, unique natural rock formations, and even fragments of ancient pottery left behind long ago. A few steps are required to enter the cave, but guests who prefer can relax nearby and skip this portion of the exploration.

Once the cave adventure is complete, the off-road trail continues to the village of Freetown Sibun, where a delicious local lunch awaits. Here you’ll enjoy a traditional Belizean meal featuring rice and beans, stew chicken, fried plantains, and potato salad. Refresh with purified bottled water or a Belizean soda, and local Belizean beer will also be available for purchase.

After a day filled with wildlife encounters, off-road excitement, and authentic local flavors, you’ll relax on the return journey back to Belize City, arriving comfortably at the port with plenty of time before your ship’s departure.
